To create your Works Cited list:
1. Open up Internet Explorer
2. Go to the Library Media Center page
3. Click on Noodle Tools
4.
Click
on “Current Users Sign In”
(do not log in under “free tools”)
5. Type in your personal ID (same as your network login)
6. Type in your password (some of you already have an account, use the password you created). If I made the account for you, the password is “noodle.”
7. Click on Create A New Project
8. Select MLA Advanced (yes, it sounds scary, but “advanced” just means grade 6 & up)
9. Title your list (description) and click Create Project
10. Click on Bibliography to start adding citations
11. In the "Cite a..." pull-down menu, select citation type
12. Click Create Citation
Fill out as many fields under Basic Information as you can. If you only fill out the starred (*) fields, you will not have complete citations (and you will loose points on your Works Cited list).
1. Under Electronic/Online, select Web Site & click Create Citation
2. NoodleBib will ask you questions to verify that this is what you want (that this is a free website and not a subscription service, for example). Select general website and click next.
3. Under describe the content, click on appropriate content type (or “No content type below applies”); click next
4. Fill out as many boxes under Basic Information as you can (many web pages do not list an author, for example). Please remember that:
a. URL means web address (http://www......)
b. The URL is not the same as the title of the Website (for example, Cable News Network is the title of a website, it’s URL is http://www.cnn.com)
c. include copyright date, sponsor or publisher, and author when available
5. Check for Errors. Make any necessary corrections.
6. Click Update Citation.
In the “Cite A…Menu,” look under AudioVisual & select Cartoon or Comic Strip and click create citation.
Select Web Site and click Next.

To cite an article from Discovering Collection:
1. In the “Cite A… Menu,” under “nonperiodicals,” select book, click “Next.” NoodleBib will ask you questions to make sure this is what you want to cite; click Next
2. NoodleBiB will then ask if you are citing a print book, an online book, or other electronic media. Make appropriate selection, click next.
3. NoodleBib will then ask if you are citing entire book, a chapter, a chart, etc. (If you are not sure, choose “entire book”). Click next.

Enter
all information under Basic Information (author, title, city of
publication, publisher and copyright year. If you do not have the book with you,
the information can be found on Destiny, the library’s online card catalog).
[This is the minimum amount of information required for a correctly
formatted Works Cited list. Your teacher will tell you if you need to fill out
additional information or write annotations].
5. Click Check for Errors. If errors are found, make the suggested changes, then click Generate Citation.
6. If there are no errors, click Update Citation.
To cite a Downloadable E-Book on a Digital device:
In the “Cite A… Menu,” under “nonperiodicals,” select book, click “Next."
Choose "Digital File: A file independent from the Web or a published disc (e.g., a PDF or Word file on your computer)" as the publication medium and click "Next."
Answer the question "What content of the book are you citing?" as needed (Select "entire book" if not sure) and click "next."
For digital file type, put in type of file (ie: MS Word, PDF, ePub, AZW file, Kindle file, etc.)
Enter all information under Basic Information (author, title, city of publication, publisher and copyright year). [This is the minimum amount of information required for a correctly formatted Works Cited list. Your teacher will tell you if you need to fill out additional information or write annotations].
If page numbers do not remain constant when you enlarge the text or if page numbers are device-specific, answer "No" to "Does the source have page numbers?"
Click Check for Errors. If errors are found, make the suggested changes, then click Generate Citation.
If there are no errors, click Update Citation.
To cite an article from Science Online:
1. In the “Cite A… Menu,” under Electronic / Online, select Online Database and click create citation
2. Select Reference Work and click next
3. Select Encyclopedia article or entry, Yes: I will provide the print publication details and click next
5. For name of database, enter Science Online
8. Fill out everything under Basic Information (author, article title, Title of reference book, edition, etc - citation info can be found at the end of the article); Information about the print reference source, and Online retrieval: Basic information (Name of database, access date, etc.)
9. Click Check for Errors. IF errors are found, make the suggested changes, then click Generate Citation. If there are no errors, click Update Citation.
To cite an article from Gale Virtual Reference Library (E-Books):
1. In the “Cite A… Menu,” under Nonperiodicals, select Book and click create citation
2. Select Book or Reference Work and click next
3. Select Online and click next
4. Select entire book (or select type of section) and click next
5. Select, Yes I will provide the publication details of original print publication in my citation
6. Fill out everything under Basic Information: author(s), title, publication city, publisher, publication year, title of section, page numbers (citation info can be found in the citation tools of the article); and Online retrieval: Basic information (name of database is Gale Virtual Reference Library)
7. Click Check for Errors. If errors are found, make the suggested changes, then click Generate Citation. If there are no errors, click Update Citation.
To cite an article from
SIRS Researcher that is reprinted from a magazine, newspaper, or
reference work:
To cite information from
SIRS Researcher that written by the ProQuest staff for the online database
(such as an Overview of a Leading Issue, a timeline, etc):
How to cite a YouTube video (or other free, online source):
1. In the “Cite A… Menu,” under Audiovisual, select Film or Video Recording
2. Verify movie or film and click Next
3. Select Online and click Next
4.
Indicate
either A movie/film reproduced (whole or in part) online OR A
movie or clip made for the Web
(YouTube can have either)
5. Enter as much information under Basic Information, Online retrieval: Basic information, and Online retrieval: Information about the Web Site as you can (title of film clip; primary contributor, name of website, date of creation, complete URL;

Click
Check for Errors; make any necessary changes
Click Update Citation
To Cite an
Image Found Online with a Search Engine
(not a subscription database such as the AP
Photo Archive):
1. In the “Cite A… Menu,” under AudioVisual, select Painting, Sculpture or Photograph and click Create Citation
2. At the next screen, verify that you are citing Painting, Sculpture, Photograph, and click Next
3. For What is the publication medium of this source? select Online and click Next
4.
For What
specifically are you citing? Select:
either a photograph reproduced online OR a photograph or
digital image that only exists online; Click Next
5.
Enter as
much information as you can about the Photograph and Online retrieval,
including:
-Name of photographer (if given)
-Title or description of photograph
-Date photo was created (if known)
-Name of Website and sponsor or publisher
-Complete URL of image (if using Google Images, click on See Full-Size Image and use that URL)
6.
Click
Check for Errors; make any necessary corrections;
click Update Citation
To Cite a
Photo That You Took Yourself:
1. In the “Cite A… Menu,” under AudioVisual, select Painting, Sculpture or Photograph and click Create Citation
2. At the next screen, select Personal Photograph and click Next
3. Verify that the medium is a photograph and click Next
4. At the next screen, enter the description of the photograph and the date it was taken; click Check for Errors
5. Make any necessary corrections and click Update Citation
To Cite a Photograph from a Family Album:
1. In the “Cite A… Menu,” under AudioVisual, select Painting, Sculpture or Photograph and click Create Citation
2. At the next screen, verify that you are citing Painting, Sculpture, Photograph, and click Next
3. At the next screen, select Artwork (your family album will be considered a private collection) and click Next
4.
Fill out as
much information under Basic Information as you can:
-Name of photographer (if known)
-Title or description of artwork
-Medium of artwork: Photograph
-Year photo was taken (if known);
can also be a time period (ex.: 1920s)
-Name of individual or group who owns the photo album
(ex.: Smith Family Photos or John Jones Photograph Collection)
-Collection location (ex.: Westport, CT or Buffalo, NY, etc.)
5. Click Check for Errors
6. Make any necessary corrections and click Update Citation
To Cite an Cartoon, Comic, or Clip Art Found Online with a Search Engine
1. In the “Cite A… Menu,” under AudioVisual, select Cartoon or Comic Strip and click Create Citation
2. At the next screen, verify that you are citing A cartoon or comic strip published on a Web site (but not any specific publication type listed above), and click Next
3. Verify that the cartoon or comic strip is from a General Website and Click Next
4.
Enter as
much information as you can about the Cartoon / Comic Strip / Clip Art and
Online retrieval, including:
-Name of illustrator (if given)
-Title or description of image
-Complete URL of image (if using Google Images, click on See
Full-Size Image and use that URL)
-Name of Website
5.
Click
Check for Errors; make any necessary corrections;
click Update Citation
How to Cite
An Interview You Conducted Yourself:
1. In the “Cite A… Menu,” under Other, select Interview, and click Create Citation
2. Verify that it is an Interview conducted by me (An unpublished interview you conducted yourself (personally, on the telephone, via e-mail, etc.) and click Next
3. Fill in the name of the person interviewed; the type of interview (For example, Personal, E-mail, Videoconference, Letter, Telephone, or Instant messenger), and the date(s) the interview was conducted; click check for errors
4. Make any necessary corrections and click Update Citation
How to Cite
[Copyright Free or Friendly] Music Found Online:
[ex: songs from
www.freeplaymusic.com]
1. In the “Cite A… Menu,” under AudioVisual, select Sound Recording and click Create Citation
2. Select Sound recording created in a professional or home studio (not radio) and click Next
3. Select Online and click Next
4. Select either “No, produced for the web,” or “Yes, entire album reproduced online” [see online source for information], A song or musical composition, and click Next
5. Fill out as much information under Basic Information [ title of song; name of composer if given, description of digital format (.mps, .wav, etc.), date of recording if given] and Online Retrieval as possible [access date, complete URL of the song, name of Website, publisher or sponsor of the site]
6. Click Check for Errors
7. Make any necessary corrections and click Update Citation
To print your Works Cited list from NoodleBib:
1. When you are done entering citations and want to print out your Works Cited list, open your list in Noodle Tools
2. Verify that the list is sorted by alphabetical order.
3. Click Print/Export, drag down to either Word Document or Google Docs.
4. If you selected MS Word, Click Save, then Open and Print.
5. When the File Download pop-up appears, click save. Make sure to save to your Y-Drive and re-title the document.
To Share your Works Cited list with your library/media specialist:
1. After you have entered all your citations, open up your list in NoodleTools
2. Click on the Share button (to the right of the Print and Save as Word Document buttons)
3. Select assignment dropbox, enter your first and last name. If working with a partner or a group, enter all of your last names in the my name box and class section (A, yellow, etc.). For the Science Fair, you will also enter your project number and click share
